Cartularies are among the most important source materials – they record many documents, a bulk of which were not preserved in original form, and are considered a product of the medieval chancery and a proof of its organization level. The paper aims to outline the functioning of cartularies in a medieval chancery and to present some reflection in the field of source studies on the discussed issue, as well as a review of research about medieval cartularies in Polish historiography.

The paper focuses on analysis of a travelogue by Samuel Johnson, presenting his perspective on 18^th-century Scotland and its inhabitants. The author shows selected aspects of everyday life of Scots at that time and emphasizes the consistency between Johnson’s descriptions and the findings of modern researchers. She also highlights the significance of accounts in the vein of Johnson’s travelogue in research on mental history of the epoch and on changes which occurred in northern Scotland in the 18^th century – for example, gradual disappearance of the clan system and Celtic culture.

The paper presents the source materials produced by the members of Communist Party of Germany (Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands, KPD) in Silesia in 1919– 1933. The author analysed the party documents and assessed their contents and completeness. Changes in the volume of source material thorough the discussed period were pointed out and its uneven chronological distribution was explained. Qualitative changes in the contents of the documents, related to the organisational evolution of the party, were also addressed. Finally, the specificity of the communist press was analysed and compared with the documents issued by KPD.

The paper presents the opportunities offered by the “Television Bulletin” (“Biuletyn Telewizyjny”) as a source of historical research on Polish Television in 1950s and 1960s. It published domestic and foreign scientific content: statistical data, viewers’ opinions and articles on history of television, sociology and media studies. Thereby, the discussed journal stood out among the popular science journals of the time covering similar topics, like “Radio and Television” (“Radio i Telewizja”) and “Antenna” (“Antena”), targeting a broader audience.

This paper is a source edition of documents concerning the dissolution of the Poor Clares convents in Wrocław and Głogów, appropriated by the Prussian state under the secularisation edict of 1810. In those documents, the Ursuline convents in Wrocław and Świdnica are frequently mentioned because the fates of both nunneries were intertwined as a result of the dissolution in 1810. The source edition is preceded with a historical commentary explaining the character of the sources and briefly describing their contents. The files contain primarily information on the course of the dissolution process, while mentioning also contents of convent libraries – valuable manuscripts and music documentation, as well as works of art, particularly paintings, and handicraft (i.a., stamp seals). The most precious elements of the convents’ posessions were included into the library collection of the former university in Wrocław. In this paper, isolated examples of works of art preserved until the present day and stored in public collections were provided.
