Unpredictability of the line

Abstrakt

The article contains the author’s considerations on the relationships between the idea of a line in the Euclidean version and individual and its interpretations performed by artists. The general reflections concern the notion of line juxtaposed with its subjective understanding and free application. Artists using the language of geometry seek to make the viewer aware of the dissimilarity between optical experience and visual representation. In their works, the line appears either as an autonomous entity, or it demonstrates one of many forms of dependence on the construction of the image of which it constitutes a part. The text is therefore complemented by examples of original visualisations being the works of outstanding artists.
