The aim of this article is to discuss and interpret a hitherto unknown design vari- ant of the Royal National Theatre in Berlin by Carl G. Langhans. The project, designated as “III Project C” and stored in the collection of the Museum in Gliwice in the Willa Caro department, was probably the simplest and cheapest variant of the plans for the first bourgeois theatre in the capital of Prussia. The article also attempts to reconstruct the creative process of the other projects of the theatre and to analyse the differences between them.
