About

The Sobótka Silesian Historical Quarterly has been in circulation since 1946. It was first published biannually; however, since 1957, it has been published quarterly under the current title. Until 2018, the paper had been published by the Wrocław Historical Society, the Wrocław branch of the Polish Historical Society, but later the Historical Institute and the Department of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences of the Univeristy of Wrocław became entirely responsible for its publishing.

The periodical is constantly changing and adapting to meet current needs and new challenges, creating a platform for presenting current research results and scientific discussion. It has been recognised by scientists in Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany.

Mission

The Sobótka Silesian Historical Quarterly is one of the oldest regional historical scientific journals and the leading paper source of knowledge about Silesia. Since its beginnings, it has been related to research on the history of Silesia and its neighbouring areas. However, the paper remains open to a variety of other topics. The current editorial team has preserved its long tradition. The periodical features materials on the history of Central and Eastern Europe, with the primary focus on Silesia, as well as other historical texts providing a regional perspective.

The materials featured in The Sobótka Silesian Historical Quarterly include articles, collections of miscellaneous sources, reviews, polemics, summaries, obituaries and other texts in Polish, English, German and Czech. The Editorial Team works with professional scientists, PhD students and enthusiasts of regional studies. There is no fee for publishing an article in the journal. All submitted articles are reviewed by at least two experts to see if they are suitable for publication. This process uses double-blind review.

History

The journal has been in circulation since 1946. At first it was published biannually, but since 1957 it has been published quarterly under the current title. The founder and the first Editor-in-Chief was prof. Antoni Knot. Later, the following people were responsible for editing The Sobótka: prof. Ewa Maleczyńska prof. Józef Gierowski prof. Józef Leszczyński prof. Adam Galos and prof. Teresa Kulak. Currently, the Editor-in-Chief is dr hab. Tomasz Przerwa, professor at The University of Wrocław.

Editorial Team’s Responsibilities

The Editorial Team is responsible for maintaining the high scientific level of the journal. Therefore, any failure to ensure scientific reliability, such as ghostwriting (failure to reveal the real authors) and guest authorship (including authors who have not contributed to the text) will be exposed. Information about them will be published and the original unit and other scientific entities will be notified.

To guarantee the high level of the journal, the Editorial Team uses all available methods of inspecting articles for cases where authors fail to ensure scientific reliability. It also uses anti-plagiarism systems.

The Editorial Team collects submitted texts and rejects or accepts them for further processing during editorial meetings. Following initial acceptance of a text, the team decides to send materials for review (see the review process). If the feedback from reviewers is positive, the text is submitted for proofreading and then sent to the author to make the first revision. The second authorial revision is completed following page make up. After printing an issue, the Editorial Team sends the authorial copies of the journal to the authors.
