Abstract

The article analyses the growing popularity of women’s erotic literature based on the example of E. L. James novel titled Fifty Shades of Grey. The author of this article indicates that the current interpretations of popularity of women’s erotic literature are insufficient, and proposes his own perspective on the phenomenon, one that relies on the cultural codes accompanying the process of changing the patterns of sexuality in the Western culture. The development and high popularity of women’s erotic literature is the result of changes in the perception, and the experiencing, of sexuality.
