Abstract

Condemned cults on the basis of the Old Testament and Catechism of the Catholic Church

The article brings closer the problem of bans comprising activities connected with magic or fortune-telling from the point of view of the Catholic religion. Fragments of the Old Testament and Catechism of the Catholic Church indicate that each breakaway towards antisacrum sphere means rejecting God and searching for other cults, and going beyond clearly defined rules is dangerous for a man. In the Old Testament we deal with explicit directives – bans, orders and warnings concerning fortune-telling, magic and spiritualism total taboo. The text of the Catechism of the Catholic Church does not have such strict directives. It contains mainly warnings against dangerous practices e.g. occultism and the results of such actions. In this context, we can talk mainly about a preventive taboo.
