Theoretical Physics going astray

In this article I have discussed the emergence, development and current state of theoretical physics and agreed with the general positive assessment of the role of mathematics in the natural sciences, especially physics. However, contrary to the enthusiastic tone existing in this field, I want to show that excessive confidence in mathematics and the focus on the mathematical aspects of physical theories can have serious adverse consequences, which in recent years have become clearly visible. I examine the difficulties that are encountered by theoretical physics by using the example of string theory.
