Abstrakt

Galileo as the author of the modern ideal of science

The aim of this article is to present Galileo's thinking in the context of the role which this thinking played in the shaping of the modern ideal of science. The author attempts to show that the crucial premise of this ideal is the position of scientific realism, which assumes that only the objects of science do really exist. This position is the consequence of the method of doing science inspired by Galileo, namely, the method based on the mathematisation of physics.
