Stanisław Rospond’s research on the role of the Church in the history of the Polish language

In impressively extensive scientific output of Stanisław Rospond his research on the role of the Church in the history of the Polish language remains marginal indeed; however, the scholar attached tremendous importance to this area, which can be confirmed by the fact that he was working on his comprehensive study The Church in the history of the Polish language literally on his deathbed and therefore was unable to introduce changes and amendments suggested by an editorial reviewer. This Rospond’s study although premature and sometimes controversial played an immense role in the history of the Polish language as it sparked a discussion that enlivened and guided research on significance of the Church in the history of our national language.
