Contemporary tendencies to give names to children in Łobżenica

Comparison of names from grandparents’ generation with those from grandchildren’s generations gathered in the birth record of the Municipal Office in Łobżenica 1929 and 1990 shows that among ten the most popular male names no single name is repeated and among all names given to boys only two Michał and Artur appeared on both lists. In the group of female names four names out of all names given to girls appeared on both lists – Anna, Agnieszka, Lidia, Marta. A poll conducted among parents showed that the most frequent reason behind parents’ decisions to give names is popularity of a certain name. Both parents decide together which name should be chosen.
