The aim of the article is to critically discuss the exhibition presented in the Museum of the City of Lodz titled “Expressions of Freedom. Bunt and Jung Idysz – an exhibition that never was...” (12 June to 29 September 2019). The exhibition, which is the first large curatorial project showing the achievements of the Lodz avant-garde group Jung Idysz, has been inscribed in the celebrations not only of the 100th anniversary of this artistic formation, but also of the entire year of the avant-garde in Poland. The confrontation of the Jung Idysz group with the Poznan Expressionists from the Bunt group provided an opportunity to outline a broader background of mutual contacts and connections of the young Polish avant-garde in the interwar period.
