THE LUCILIAN TRADITION IN JUVENAL’S AND MACROBIUS’ WRITINGS

The aggressive attitude of Lucilius’s Satires was accepted as the most characteristic feature of his literary activity. Although criticised for reckless and almost compulsive fecundity Lucilius was claimed to be an unquestionable master of the genre. Juvenal accentuated the iconic position of the audacious republican Satirist for those who were engaged in social and political criticism. In the times of Macrobius’, despite the still living legend of the Satirist’s bravado, Lucilian Satires are widely recognised as a repository of linguistic curiosities and read by the circle of Illuminati.
