A few comments on metapoetical self-irony of El Diablo Mundo by José Espronceda and Beniowski by Juliusz Słowacki
The article analyzes the presence of self-ironical metapoetical motives in two romantic digression poems: El Diablo Mundo by José de Espronceda and Beniowski by Juliusz Słowacki, both inspired by Byron’s works. Both contain a typical distance between the epic narration and the author’s commentary in which the poet adopts a critical attitude towards his own creation act and he manifests the domination of his poetical “me” upon the work. The work treated ironically becomes only a pretext to the personal statement of the author, although it leads to the partitioning of the poem and is a threat for the cohesion of the presented world.
