“Wenguste, aki dyneros”. The Spanish language of Polish participants of the War of Independence
This article pretends to present the different attempts of Poles, soldiers of Napoleon’s Army, to establish communication – verbal in a third language – French – and in Spanish or nonverbal — with the Spanish population. The peculiarities of Castilian spoken by Poles, the interference and most repeated errors registered and their possible causes are also analyzed. Finally, we attempt to judge likely consequences of the existence of this communication, or rather its lack. The analyses are made on the basis of the memories of Polish soldiers, participants of the Spanish War of Independence.
