Metatheatre as a concept of the autonomy of modern art

The article deals with the conception and the goal of the dramaturgical phenomenon of “theatre in theatre”. It analyses the similarities between two plays: El público by García Lorca and Dwa teatry Two Theatres by Jerzy Szaniawski, in the light of metatheatre discourse, in which both plays are settled. It also deals with the final role of theatre dichotomy and how it can be beaten by the vision of a total theatre.
