The picture of the family in Spanish proverbs

In this article we try to reconstruct the cultural image of Spanish family presented in proverbs. According to the methods of ethnolinguistics we describe the figures of the principal members of family, their values and defects. Our aim was the reconstruction of the image of the family in collective consciousness, description of its principal characteristics, connotations and associations. After the analysis of the proverbs we observed the principal characteristics of the Spanish family like patriarchy, traditionalism and conflictness. The stereotypes presented in the proverbs are deeply negative and quite a lot different from common opinions.
