Resumen

The corporal expression and its function in the scenic creation of Rodrigo García

The aim of this paper is to present a possible reading of the body language in the selected theatre productions of the playwright and stage director Rodrigo García born in 1964 in Buenos Aires, who since 1989, together with his company La Carnicería, has developed his own experimental theatre based mostly on the performer’s body. Within the terms of performative aesthetics explored by Erika Fischer- Lichte, the notion of “performatives” of J.L. Austin and the theories of the avant-garde and neo-avant-garde movements concerning the concept of the actor, this work examines issues such as: body in movement, mistreatment of body on the stage, body as a generator of meaning, social and political contexts conveyed by physical bodies of the actors and active participation of the spectators in Rodrigo García’s performances.
