Abstract

The aim of this article is to present changes in the language of politics caused by cultural transformations in the light of two recent political periods in the history of Poland. It has been assumed a priori that the year 1989 is the turn of two historic epochs but also remains a cultural limit. On the basis of a text analysis I prove that language behaviour in the area of politics is determined by a political communication model dominant in a certain political system. The language behaviour mentioned above is also determined by cultural patterns accepted (or not) by a given society, created and disseminated by ruling politicians and – in pluralistic systems – also by participants in a public discourse representing various political options, propagating various ideologies and finally representing various systems of values.
