Abstract

The paper discusses the intertextual potential of political catchwords and political slogans, according to the collection of this kind of textual formulas present in the Polish political and public discourse between the years 1918–2018. All the examples presented come from the collection of Polish political catchwords (slogans) from the years 1918–2018 compiled at Wrocław University, completed with contemporary examples from the last two years. Basing on Polish political catchwords, the author presents examples of different intertextual types. There are two types of intertextuality depicted: (1) citations and (2) allusions to other popular catchwords and catchphrases (2.a), to famous cultural texts (2.b), and to reality and widespread occurrences (2.c). Besides, the author’s attention focuses on well-known formulas which seem to be the most transformable and replicable throughout history (according to the project of A Dictionary of Polish Political Catchwords).
