In this article I aim to analyze Russian informative and reporting utterances which were used in the texts sent on postcards in the second half of the 20th century. Descriptive statements accompanying Russian wishes sent on postcards have not been the subject of comprehensive linguistic studies so far, therefore their examination may contribute to supplementing the knowledge about short epistolary texts, in particular about the topics covered in this type of correspondence in the analyzed period. The research concerns the location of the descriptive statements in the structure of letters as well as their subject matter and functions. The study leads to the conclusion that some of the observed phenomena may have a cultural, psychological and/or sociolinguistic background.
