Generally speaking, the consilium is legal advice, which is primarily an analysis of a specific legal problem, drafted in Latin during the Middle Ages and in subsequent centuries by univer-sity-trained lawyers. The aim of the paper is to describe the consilium in the context of other legal literary genres used by jurists connected with schools of glossators and commentators to formulate their reflections on the law.
