No. 3(73) (2024): Art in Wrocław in the early modern age

In the latest issue of our quarterly journal, we present seven articles devoted to architecture and art in Wrocław in the early modern age. Rafał Eysymontt, Agnieszka Seidel-Grzesińska and Łukasz Krzywka explore the history and style transformations of the former residence of the Dukes of Legnica and Brzeg. Marek Świdrak revisits the work of architect Valentin von Saebisch focusing on his design drawings for the building of St. Mary Magdalene Gymnasium. Romuald Kaczmarek discusses the painted works of Johann Lichtenstein, and Marek Kwaśny describes the Legend of St. Anthony of Padua cycle painted by Johann Jacob Eybelwieser the Younger. Małgorzata Wyrzykowska analyses in detail the ideological programme and models of the chapel of St. Francis Xavier in the University church. Stefano Rinaldi examines four swords that once belonged to Duke George II of Legnica and Brzeg, and Artur Kolbiarz tracks the influences of ancient sculpture discernible in the works of Georg Leonhard Weber.
