Wydawnictwo Dolnośląskie Lower Silesia Publishing Company as a publisher of Hebrew and Yiddish literature translations

During the last decade of the 20th century there were more books containg literary translations of Hebrew and Yiddish literature published than in the remaining 90 years of the twentieth century. In the 90’s appeared 149 book editions which were published by 70 publishing houses. One of the most important and respected contemporary Polish publishing companies, Wydawnictwo Dolnośląskie, has played asignificant role in this field as one of the most active publishers. Dolnośląskie did not owe its strong position only to a number of editions, but also, and perhaps above all, to high quality and diversity of the repertoire. It became known through its ambitious publishing programme which contained Polish and translated foreign literature, publications on the capital of Lower Silesia and excellent popular series e.g. “Ato Polska właśnie”, “Biblioteka Klasyki”, “Tak żyli ludzie” and among them unique “Biblioteka Pisarzy Żydowskich” “Library of Jewish Writers”, devoted entirely to translations of Jewish Literature.
