Abstract

“Archipelag” – a Polish page in Diario de Alcalá (1995–2005)

The article analyses the contents of Archipelag, the page published weekly in Polish in Diario de Alcalá by the association of Polish immigrants White Eagle Águila Blanca/Orzeł Biały. Archipelag presents the activity of the Polish community in the region of Madrid, gives some practical information and advice to the immigrants, informs about Poland, its history and actual
situation, and about contacts between Spain and Poland. A lot of Polish efforts are supported by
Spanish institutions, sensitive to immigrants’ necessities, considering the particular character of
Alcalá de Henares, where Poles were the first group of foreigners, followed now massively by immigrants of other nationalities. The text shows as well the ten years’ process of integration of
Poles to the receiving society.
