Abstract

Granada: between Moors and Christians

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the multicultural aspects of the society of Granada. A brief historical study is carried in order to analyze the influence of the Arab culture that is still evident in Andalucía today. The paper discusses the process of becoming accustomed to life in Granada, including the social and cultural differences in Spain, as seen from the perspective of an immigrant from North Africa. It deals with the main cultural concepts regarding beliefs, moral rules, customs and language. It also looks at skills and habits that are gained by the immigrants who form and create a multicultural society. The above phenomena are analyzed on the basis of data from June 2006, provided by INE The National Institute of Statistics.
