The journal “Mountains-Literature-Culture” has been appearing since 1996. It is a humanities journal which presents the results of research on the cultural role of the mountains, as well as showing the ways in which an interest in the mountains and matters related to them find manifestation in Polish and world literature and art. The aim of the journal is to support the integrated studies of various aspects of the mountains as cultural sites. The journal has been founded as a response to an ever more clearly recognized need to humanize broadly understood ecological thought and various ecological issues. This compels the authors whose texts are published in the journal to transcend the strictures of particular scientific disciplines and to engage in interdisciplinary discourse.

The studies devoted to the mountains issues open up a broader perspective on the problems of the philosophy of nature, nature aesthetics, cultural anthropology, literary history and the history of art. Works which belong to this vast interdisciplinary thematic field are expected to provide a fresh look at multiple aspects of the culture-building role of the mountains and offer a new angle at changing attitudes towards these sites. In particular, new light should be cast on the works arising from a direct contact with the mountains, regarded as both natural and cultural phenomena. Therefore the goal and ambition of the authors of the texts that have been published in the journal so far has been to demonstrate an inspiring effect of the mountains, interpreted as a great universal value, on creative imagination in different cultural circumstances, as well as showing philosophical, artistic and social consequences of this influence. This policy will be continued in the volumes to follow. Due to the multifaceted character and the broad scope of the mountains themes, all subsequent volumes will be published as monographs.

Abstracts of articles published in "Góry, Literatura, Kultura" can be found in the database of scientific journals Czasopisma Naukowe w Sieci (CNS) and in the The Central European Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (on the basis of an appropriate agreement between WUWr and CEJSH). Thanks to the agreement of the Publisher with the MLA Directory of Periodicals, copies of the journal are also sent to the Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA, ProQuest). The journal is also indexed in the Federation of Digital Libraries and Europeana.
