The principle of rationality is one of the main methodological norms defining scientific practice. I the article I am discussing different aspects of alchemic practices, Boyle’s laboratory work and modern laboratory sciences on the basis of the intersubjective communication and repeatability of experimental results. I am arguing in favour of the thesis that the manner of respecting this rule marks out the demarcation line between pseudo-scientific alchemic knowledge and Boyle’s protochemical works, but, at the same time, between Boyle’s laboratory practices and modern laboratory sciences.
