Abstrakt

From God to the world, to freedom. Mikhail Bakunin’s atheism

The present article deals with the issue of atheism in the philosophy of Mikhail Bakunin 1814–1876. It focuses on the development of the philosopher’s position concerning religion, his understanding of the history of religion as well as his attempts to specify the nature of religion. Later in the article the specific relation between religion and power and the state is considered. Lastly Bakunin’s theory of atheism and its inherent correlative, namely the issue of man’s freedom, are outlined.
