Abstrakt

In my text, I address the problem of the relationship between the understanding that motivates morally good conduct and the concept of human preciousness, introduced by Raimond Gaita. I analyze this issue on the basis of the moral activity of Prince Myshkin, the protagonist of Dostoyevsky’s The Idiot. First, I consider the relationship between truth and morality, and then — drawing on Emmanuel Levinas’s ethics of the face — I focus on the significance of moral sensitivity as the point of departure in moral relation to the other person.
