The causes of the Spanish economic crisis in the Polish press discourse
The aim of this paper is to present the results of the analysis of the Polish press discourse about the causes of the financial crisis in Spain. The research was based on the texts from the two most opinion-forming press titles: Gazeta Wyborcza and Rzeczpospolita. The analysis showed that both daily newspapers present two main groups of factors that led to the economic break-down. The first group is related to the international financial situation and to the collapse of the housing market. The other is directly linked to the thoughtless and uneconomical behaviour, imputed to the Spanish. This article presents detailed arguments used by each newspaper and compares the differences between these discourses. Also, the research enabled one to achieve the secondary objective: to describe the image of the Spanish people presented in the texts.
