Statement on the ethical principles of “Rocznik Europeistyczny” (The Annals of European Studies)

 

Authors

The papers submitted to the journal should correspond to the theme of the journal, be reliable, original and objective. The Editorial Team does not accept any texts published fully or partially in other journals.

By sending a text to the editorial team of the journal, the Author a) states that he/she has the author’s economic rights to the text, that the text is free from legal defects, has not been previously published, either in full or in part, and has not been submitted to the editorial team of another journal, and that b) he/she grants a free-of-charge consent to the publication of the text in “Rocznik Europeistyczny” and to its temporarily or territorially unrestricted distribution, including putting copies of the journal on the market and making them available online, for a fee or free of charge.

The authors are at the same time obliged to abide by a) the principle of scientific rigour (Authors are obliged to demonstrate rigour and objective interpretation of research findings), b) the principle of originality (Authors may only submit their own, original texts for publication), c) the principle of reliability of sources (Authors are obliged to indicate all the publications they used when creating the paper, and the cited studies should be substantially related to the issue under analysis). The Authors are also obliged to disclose information about the sources of financing of their publications, and the contribution of scientific and research institutions, associations and other entities (financial disclosure), especially when the text is a result of cooperation as part of a research project.

 

Reviewers

The Editorial Team selects reviewers from among specialists in a given field, taking into account the suggestions of the theme editor. The reviewer may be a person from the list of regular reviewers maintained by the editorial team or outside of it. The selected reviewers must guarantee: independence and lack of the conflict of interest with the authors of the papers (lack of direct personal relationship, reporting relationship and direct scientific cooperation over two years preceding the review).

Reviews follow the principle of double anonymity: the reviewers and authors do not know each other’s identity (procedure of double-blind review).

The reviewer should take into account the substantive value of the texts being reviewed, especially their originality and new information they provide as well as posing new research problems. Formal aspects of the text are also subject to evaluation. Reviews should be objective and substantive, and critical remarks should be supported by appropriate arguments.

Reviewer’s comments are sent to the Author, who is obliged to make adjustments as suggested or provide a justification for not doing so. With two negative reviews, the editorial team refuses to accept the text for printing.

 

Editorial Team

The Editorial Board requires the authors of publications to indicate the contribution of the individual authors to the text (along with their affiliation and extent of their contribution, i.e. information about who is the author of the concept, assumptions, methods, procedure, etc. used while preparing the text), with the author submitting the manuscript bearing main responsibility. The race, sex, religion, background, citizenship or political views of the authors by no means determine how the texts are handled.

Submitted papers are subject to initial evaluation by the Editorial Team in terms of form and substance. If a text fits the profile of the journal and meets the formal requirements as specified in the “Information for the Authors” section, it is qualified for further procedure. The decision is taken based on the content of the paper, analysis of the correctness of the presented findings and after dispelling all the doubts as to the infringement of copyrights, libel or plagiarism. The Editorial Team and the Publishing House reserve the right to make editorial improvements to the texts; they also strive to ensure scientific rigour and a high level of the published papers. The Editorial Team will maintain confidentiality of all the information about the paper as disclosed by the Authors. The information about the manuscript will not be discussed with or disclosed to third parties.

The Editorial Board requires the Authors, Editors and Reviewers to follow ethical rules at each stage of a text publication. The Editorial Team is ready to publish corrections, explanations, apologies as well as to retract publications if infringement of copyrights, libel or plagiarism is found.

 

Plagiarism

The Editorial Board documents any manifestations of scientific dishonesty, especially the violation and infringement of ethical rules applicable in science.

Measures to protect against cases of ghostwriting and guest authorship have been put in place. Ghostwriting (the situation when somebody has made a substantial contribution to the publication without revealing himself/herself as one of the authors or without his/her role being indicated in the acknowledgements included in the publication) and guest authorship (situation when a person has made a negligible or non-existent contribution, but has been indicated as the author/co-author of the publication) are manifestations of scientific dishonesty, and any such cases will be revealed if identified, including reporting them to the relevant entities (the institutions employing the authors, scientific associations, associations of scientific editors, etc.).

As plagiarism is not permissible in any forms, such texts will not be accepted. All identified cases of scientific dishonesty are published by the Editorial Board in the journal and reported to the relevant entities (the institutions employing the authors, scientific associations, editorial offices of other journals, etc.).
