WHO IS ASLAN? BIBLICAL SOURCES OF THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA

There is no doubt that C.S. Lewis, an atheist converted to the Christianity, used his energy and talent of writer to broadcast the message of the Gospels. The studies of Joseph Pearce or John Randolph Willis are examples of the theological interpretation of his works. In The Chronicles of Narnia, tales destined for children, C.S. Lewis in an allegorical form presents the issues of the Christian faith. The lion Aslan, the central character of the stories, is a Christ-figure; he suffers, dies and rises to save his friends and the land of Narnia. The paper proposes an analysis of the adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe filmed by Andrew Adamson 2005, asking whether a popular Disney movie contains clear Christian influences. It is interesting to observe how the film strengthens the Christian message of the book by referring to the Gospels as the first source of Lewis’ parables, for example in the scenes of the killing or the resurrection of Aslan.
