Conscience clause in the Thomistic and personalist concept of conscience

This article undertakes an issue of conscience clause in the Thomistic and personalist philosophical tradition. It is set out in a strict relation to conscience itself. First, a relation between synderesis and conscience is sketched. Second, a nature of conscience as an act of reason against a background of other human acts is underlined. Finally, the paper tries to shed some light on the controversies in accepting this Thomistic and personalist project of conscience and its clause. In doing that, a clash between the conscience as a personal act and a so-called social conscience is depicted.
