In this article I take a closer look at some expository remarks on Jean-Luc Nancy’s conception of the “singulier pluriel” ontology. I would like to focus in particular on the concept of being-with étre-avec, which is obviously the French rendering of Martin Heidegger’s term Mitsein. What Nancy is attempting is what he calls “a co-existential analytic”, an existential ontology of being-with which has the ambition of being a first philosophy. In this way Nancy exposes irreducible plurality and relation to the ontological fundament of human being and being as such.
