Intentionality and culture in the Thomistic and cognitivist perspective. The analysis of the concepts of M.A. Krąpiec and M. Tomasello
The aim of the article is to compare the Thomistic concept of cognitive intentionality with the concept of M. Tomasello, who is a very influential contemporary cognitive scientist. The comparison of different philosophical theories is a very fruitful research strategy. The article presents first the Thomistic theory of intentionality, according to M.A. Krąpiec, then the concept of intentionality elaborated by M. Tomasello. The analysis pointed out the common points and differences. It was argued that the Thomistic conception of cultural knowledge can be complemented by appropriate results achieved in developmental psychology.
