The aim of this article is to discuss the problem of different types of pronunciation errors. The study is based on errors made by Polish native speakers learning Dutch. Drawing on current publications concerning the approaches to pronunciation errors classification, it is argued that the existing clas­sifications fail to cover the full spectrum of the problem and to analyze the complexity of the errors themselves. They also are not appropriate to be used in the classroom. In response to weak points of the existing classifications and taking into account actual teaching needs, a new approach is pro­posed which consists of four modules and is more analyzing than classifying in nature. Finally, five examples of common pronunciation errors are first classified and analyzed according to existing classifications and subsequently to the new approach in order to demonstrate that the proposed me­thod indeed allows to evaluate the error in a more detailed way and is therefore more suitable for pronunciation didactics.
