Abstract

The article presents the state of investigative journalism, which is one of the most dangerous types of journalism, on the example of the Russian Novaya Gazeta. The newspaper is absolutely unique compared to other press titles in Russia, as it deals with difficult topics which are all but absent in the state-owned press. The paper describes the activities of the press title and people involved in its creation (including the president of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev), editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov, as well as the work of journalists working for Novaya Gazeta. Selected titles of articles are then presented to outline how far removed the newspaper is from other Russian dailies. The text also presents new legal conditions that every Russian journalist must face.
