Quo vadis, Valenz?
The present paper discusses the existential issue of the valency theory in the context of newer syntactic theories. In the discussion with constructional grammar it shows its vitality, even the necessity of its further existence. Valency can be defined as a linguistic principle which controls semantic-syntactic relations. In this way valency can cover even peripheral phenomena. In this sense it is possible to speak not only about verb valency, but also about valency of compositional action. The prototypical qualities of valency determination signalize a new valency perspective in the context of collocations.
