The tendency to merge genres and conventions visible in contemporary popculture has exerted asignificant influence on the appearance of “genological hybrids”. The commercial success of the “paranormal crime” is agood example of the process. The introduction of irrational elements breaches the generic structure, but it allows for agame with thereader aim of which is the recognition of generic patterns applied and rules modifying them; that is the contamination of crime novel with different forms of fantastic literature; creating hybrid forms and literary games targeted at intentional frustrating of the reader’s expectations.
