The journal Neerlandica Wratislaviensia is the oldest Dutch scientific journal in Central and Eastern Europe. It was established by prof. Norbert Morciniec 40 years ago: in 1981. The first issue of the journal was published after the perturbations of martial law in 1983 with Norbert Morciniec as its editor-in-chief. Later, the post of editor-in-chief was performed by: prof. Stanisław Prędota, prof. Stefan Kiedroń, prof. Siegfried Huigen, and currently by dr. Jan Urbaniak.
The journal publishes scientific texts in Dutch, English, Afrikaans and German.
The research areas of the journal include broadly understood linguistics, literary studies and Dutch cultural studies. The authors of the articles published here conduct confrontational studies comparing the structures of the Dutch language with other languages and research in the field of applied linguistics (in particular, didactics of Dutch as a foreign language, translation studies and the Dutch jargon).
The journal also publishes articles on the literature and culture of the past ages (from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance to the Enlightenment) and of more recent times, up to the 21st century, created in the areas of today's Netherlands and Flanders and in the former Dutch colonies: Indonesia, South Africa, Congo or Suriname. Much attention in the Neerlandica Wratislaviensia is also devoted to the reception of Dutch literature and culture in Poland and Central Europe, as well as comparative research.
In addition to monographic papers, the journal also publishes review articles presenting the latest publications in the field of Dutch studies.
In the publishing plan, volumes with various issues are supplemented by monothematic volumes, such as the volume “Past, Present. Cultural-Historical Reflections on the Low Countries” (2015) or “Imagologie” (2019). We also publish monographs, an example of which are the volumes by Stefan Kiedroń (1993) and Jerzy Koch (2000).
Among the authors publishing in the Neerlandica Wratislaviensia are eminent Dutch/Flemish linguists and literary scholars from academic centers in the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Leiden, Nijmegen, Utrecht), Belgium (Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, Hasselt); from Western Europe (Berlin, Hull , Leipzig, Münster and Oslo), Central Europe (Belgrade, Bratislava, Budapest, Moscow, Vienna) and Poland (Krakow, Lublin, Poznań, Warsaw). Neerlandica Wratislaviensia also attracts researchers from outside Europe, as evidenced by the proposals for articles from South Africa, the United States, South Korea, Indonesia and Aruba sent to our editorial office.
The journal Neerlandica Wratislaviensia is listed on the “European Reference Index for the Humanities” (ERIH +).
