Photographic publications of the Ostrava region in 1948–1989

Despite the importance of photography as an often neglected research tool, there is photography analysis, becoming a key activity in recent years. Thus the paper Photographic publications of the Ostrava region in 1948–1989 does not only focus on specific literary works created in a specific geographical area, but in a certain way it conducts a survey about a political and social situation in Czechoslovakia and its Communist era. During this period photographic publications were subject to a strong editorial and political censorship, and in most cases their content was specified in advance. Some distinction in comparison to other publications issued in Czechoslovakia were the motifs related to the city as an industrial metropolis. Publications about Ostrava often took on the role of propaganda and agitation materials at this time.
