Bitcoin and geology of media: The end of the world or the end of capitalism?
The article deals with the relation between Nature and capitalism, using the example of bitcoin currency. Based on the Jussi Parikka geology of media and Jason W. Moore theory, analyzes the multiplicity of cryptocurrency entanglements in the capitalist system. Comprehending Earth as a medium and Nature as a historical mother that both constitutes and limits the capitalist system is based on the concept of anthropocene understood in a specific way. The enormous energy consumption of cryptocurrencies reveals the ideological background of the new technology, which reproduces the values carried by the era of late modernity.
