Ethics

The journal aims to follow the COPE’s Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Editors and Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers.

“Prace Kulturoznawcze” and its editors are committed to fair and professional dealing in all aspects of publishing operations. Our aim is to publish original work of value to the Polish and international intellectual community in the best possible form. For this reason all articles published in the journal are freely available (open access).

Editorial Team aspire to these standards collaborating with our Board, reviewers and authors. We expect engagement from our Ediotorial Advisory Board, originality, honesty and fair conduct from our authors, and objectivity, fairness and confidentiality from our editors and reviewers.

In case of a discovered misconduct on the author's part, such as plagiarism, falsifying data or double publication, the journal Editorial Team will call for explanation and then undertake appropriate steps by following the COPE flowcharts.

Duties of the Authors

  1. Authorship

Authorship credit should be based on: substantial contributions to conception or analysis and interpretation of data; drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content; and final approval of the version to be published.

In accordance with the COPE guidelines, any changes in authorship require written consent of all authors sent individually via direct email to the Editor-in-Chief.

  1. Fairness

The author is obliged to provide information about the sources of financing the publication, contributions from third parties, institutions or other entities (financial disclosure), especially if the text was created as a result of cooperation under a research project.

In case of more than one author contributing to the research, individual contributions of each author must be specified in the manuscript. This information will be published in the article.

The following authorship problems should be prevented before submitting a paper: “ghostwriting” and “guest authorship”.

  1. Originality

Authors of articles may submit for publication only their own texts that have not been published or submitted for publication in another journal, monograph or collective work.

Duties of the Editorial Team

  1. Confidentiality

The editor and the members of the editorial team must ensure that all materials submitted to the journal remain confidential while under review. They must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher.

  1. Legality

The members of  Editorial Team are obliged to observe the current law concerning copyright, protection of personal data, libel and plagiarism.

  1. Integrity

We are obliged to do everything possible to eliminate cases of plagiarism as well as ghostwriting and guest authorship. From 2024 all submissions are screened for plagiarism using the iThenticate plagiarism detection software.

The editors will guard the integrity of the published academic record by issuing corrections and retractions when needed and pursuing suspected or alleged research and publication misconduct. Plagiarism and fraudulent data is not acceptable.

The Editorial Committee always be willing to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when needed.

In general, the journal publishes corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern by following the COPE guidelines.

  1. Professionalism

The Editorial Team takes the final decision on the publication of texts submitted to the journal, taking into account the opinions of reviewers. The evaluation criteria are: compliance of the text with the journal's profile, the substantive level of the article and its originality.

The Editorial Committee selects reviewers who have appropriate specialist knowledge in a given field and do not conflict with the author of the article.

The editor-in-chief and the editor belonging to the Editorial Team shall not make decisions regarding the articles of which he is the author or texts written by family members. These articles follow the journal's standard procedures. If the editor submits his own article, the Editorial Team is responsible for peer review process.

  1. Tolerance

Submitted manuscripts are evaluated for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, citizenship, or political ideology.

  1. Managing conflict of interests

A conflict of interest exists when an author (or the author’s institution), reviewer, or editor has financial or personal relationships that inappropriately influence his or her actions.  If any conflict of interest exists, it is obligatory that each author and reviewer declare it.

Duties of the reviewers

  1. Scrupulousness

The Reviewers appointed by Editorial Team the of the journal are obliged to inform the editors about resigning from reviewing the article due to the lack of qualifications or time. The Reviewers are obliged to send a review on time to do not disturb publishing process.

  1. Reliability

Reviews are an important element of scientific communication and influence the final shape of articles, helping authors improve their texts. Opinions expressed in them thus influence the publishing decisions of the Team.

  1. Objectivity

The text should be assessed objectively, and the comments or suggestions supported by clear arguments. Criticism resulting from personal or other reasons not related to the substantive evaluation of the text is unacceptable. If any conflict of interest exists, it is obligatory that each reviewer declare it.
