Revolutionary forces of reproduction? Review of Stefania Barca’s book “Forces of Reproduction: Notes for a Counter-Hegemonic Anthropocene” (2020), Cambridge University Press)

Abstract

This article is a review essay of Stefania Barca’s book Forces of Reproduction: Notes for a Counter-Hegemonic Anthropocene. The author conducts a critical reconstruction of the book’s key theses and situates them in the context of debates taking place within the framework of ecosocialist theory and Marxist feminism. A particular emphasis is put on rethinking the relationship between emancipatory processes and the development of productive forces in Marxist theory and Marxism, and on framing the class struggle from the perspective of social reproduction theory.
