WRITERS IN THE HOLLYWOOD’S GOLDEN AGE — MYTH AND STRUGGLE

The author concentrates on professional writers who sought screenwriter’s jobs in Hollywood of the classic era. The “writers in Hollywood” legend is here as important as some actual circumstances they had to deal with, the rules of the movie world they had to face and difficulties they had to overcome since they came from a very different environment, that of publishing companies. An important outcome of that cooperation was the so-called Hollywood novel, the result of a struggle — real or dramatized for literary purpose — in which they e.g. Francis Scott Fitzgerald, Raymond Chandler, Nathanael West encapsulated their experience and their views on Hollywood.
