Abstract

In 2020, Hungarians celebrated the 30th anniversary of the first free parliamentary elections, which were a complement to the political transition that had begun earlier. In this article I would like to define the processes taking place inside the decision-makers elite of the communist party (MSZMP) and inside the emerging democratic opposition to better understand the phenomenon of this bloodless and calm political transition.
