Quo vadis Europe? European Union according to Jürgen Habermas’ theory. The complementary theoretical model and its criticism

The conception of european civil society from Jürgen Habermas is an attempt to find a solution to the most important problems of European Union. The limited ability to operate within the European Union in the international area, deficit of democracy, a slight citizens’ activity in the european dimension and legitimacy crisis in the EU, present a serious problem for the process of integration in the expanded Community. The proposal of Jürgen Habermas assumes creating of european public sphere, where the european civil society could be constituted on basis of common-, transnational- values and solidarity, and could be defined in categories of civil rights. The German sociologist’s conception presents the complementary theoretical model on the ground of science. According to Habermas’, it should be implemented in Europe. The Habermas’ model was criticized by the other representatives of the Science World. The presentation of critical opinions and discursive comparison of them with theorems of Habermas, should give us an answer to the question – is the concept of Habermas possible to realize, or is it only a theoretical construct?
