Determinants of regional development
In our country as well as in the whole Europe, two approaches to directions of leading regional policy clash – neoclassic and equalizing. Both options share common objective which is socio-economic development, but they differ in the way of achieving it. At a current stage of a society development, public authorities modify directions of development of Europe, country and regions. Achievement of established objectives is tightly connected with contemporarily fixed determinants which decide about economic growth and development. The article presents key development factors existence of which determines improvement of competitiveness of particular areas. Amongst many determinants, key role is played by competence, entrepreneurship, friendly and effective administration, R&D base, and business support institutions. Proper care in this areas is a challenge especially important for underdeveloped regions in which it is necessary to remove factors causing development delays and not only liquidate their symptoms.
