Ethical principles

 

Ethical statement of the journal Wrocławskie Studia Politologiczne

 

  1. Responsibilities of the Authors

    1. Scientific diligence and integrity is the key element of quality of scientific works. Authors should present their study results in a diligent, reliable, honest and integral manner.

    2. The journal publishes only scientific and original papers, which have not been published or submitted at another journal, monographic publication or multi-author book. Submitting the same text to several publishers is unethical and shall not be accepted. This concerns papers published originally in other languages, too.

    3. Accepted papers must not be published elsewhere without the written consent of the editor-in-chief and publisher.

    4. The key criterion of evaluation of submitted texts involves the objective nature of analysis and presentation of the research problem and methods of exploration which must not raise doubts and which must be possible to verify by other scholars. Untrue arguments, false results, data manipulation are deemed unethical and shall not be accepted.

    5. In any case when a text refers to arguments, research results and data developed by other authors, such fragments must be marked with a reference and/or quotation. Authors should prepare their texts based on relevant professional literature, which is key for presentation of the research problem. Information acquired by conversation or correspondence from third parties may be quoted exclusively upon express written consent of such parties.

    6. It the Author does not know the quoted work, referring to its quotations in other publications is unethical.

    7. Without a written consent of the person in question or their legal custodian, Authors must not include individual identification data collected during the research.

    8. The journal has implemented ghostwriting and guest publishing firewalls. Cases of guest publishing and ghostwriting are deemed unethical and shall not be accepted. Authorship is limited to people who had a significant impact on developing the concept, assumptions, scientific methodology and implementation of the research concept. In the case of texts developed by multiple authors, each author is obliged to submit a declaration of contribution to the text and a separate consent to publication of the paper in Wrocławskie Studia Politologiczne. Authors are obliged to disclose names of all people who contributed to development of the paper.

    9. All sources of research funding and other support in development of the publication must be disclosed.

    10. In the case of contribution of other people in article development, including funding of scientific research, responsibility for any infringement of copyright to the text is borne by the submitting author.

    11. Any found instances and evidence of lack of scientific integrity will be disclosed and respective institutions will be notified (the authors’ employers, scientific associations etc.).

     

  2. Responsibilities of the editors, Board of Editors and Scientific Council

    1. The Scientific Council, Board of Editors and editors of the journal Wrocławskie Studia Politologiczne take decisions concerning publication of submitted papers based on their conformity to the journal’s profile, professional quality of the submitted material, original character of the research, arguments and analyses contained in it. The decisions shall not be affected by the authors’ citizenship, ethnic background, race, gender, sexual orientation or religious and political convictions.

    2. All information concerning the authors obtained by the Council, the Board and editors, is confidential.

    3. Information about the submitted text may be disclosed by the editor-in-chief, members of the Board and Council exclusively to the author(s), reviewers, potential reviewers, the journal’s consultants (e.g. translators) and publisher.

    4. People listed in item 3 who have obtained information about the material submitted, must not use results, data, arguments, opinions, analyses etc., as contained in the material, until publication of the paper.

    5. Members of the Scientific Council are obliged to observe the currently binding provisions on copyright, personal data protection, libel and plagiarism. They are obliged to strive to eliminate any instances of plagiarism, guest authorship and ghostwriting.

    6. If there are any complaints concerning infringement of scientific publications ethics by papers submitted to Wrocławskie Studia Politologiczne the respective Author(s) are notified of the charges in writing and asked to respond to them. If no answer is received or the answer raises doubts, a notification will be sent to institutions where the Author(s) are affiliated or where they work.


  3. Responsibilities of the reviewers

    1. Each submitted scientific article is reviewed by two independent third-party reviewers. Wrocławskie Studia Politologiczne has implemented double-blind review procedures to ensure that the author(s) and reviewers do not know each other’s identity.

    2. Reviewers appointed by the Board of Editors of Wrocławskie Studia Politologiczne are obliged to notify the editors if they do not agree to review the text due to lack of qualifications or time. In such a case the editor-in-chief shall consult the Board of Editors and appoint another reviewer within 14 days.

    3. A text provided for review should be treated as confidential material. The reviewer must not disclose the text or discuss it with anyone other than members of the Board of Editors and Scientific Council of Wrocławskie Studia Politologiczne. Research results, data, opinions and arguments contained in a submitted paper must not be used by the reviewer in his/her own research until publication of the paper.

    4. The basic responsibility of a reviewer is to assess the text objectively. Any criticism on personal grounds is inappropriate. All comments, opinions and suggestions should be expressed clearly and grounded by arguments.

    5. The reviewing process covers the following criteria: scientific character of the submitted paper, originality of the research held; form of achievement of scientific objectives and clear presentation of the research problem; correct use of specialist publications; sufficient argumentation of theses and conclusions, conformity to the journal’s profile.

    6. A reviewer informs the Board of Editors of suspected ghostwriting, guest authorship and/or plagiarism or self-plagiarism by a person who has submitted the text for publication, indicating the doubtful fragment(s) of the text.

    7. Details of the reviewing procedure applied by Wrocławskie Studia Politologiczne are available at the journal’s website.

    8. IV. Proceeding in cases of suspected plagiarism, self-plagiarism, guest authorship or ghostwriting

    9. Any form of plagiarism is an unethical practice and shall not be accepted.

    10. In cases of suspected plagiarism, the Board of Editors of Wrocławskie Studia Politologiczne implements the verification procedure with participation of reviewers and the person who has submitted the text.

    11. In cases of confirmed unlawful use of text, arguments, research results, data, the author of the submitted article is notified in writing that the text has been rejected.

    12. If suspicions of plagiarism are confirmed, the institution(s) the author is affiliated with or cooperates with are notified.

    13. If self-plagiarism is revealed, i.e. the submitted paper includes fragments that were published before and written by the author themselves, and the fragments are not relevantly marked, the assistant editor shall be authorised by the editor-in-chief upon the consent of the Board of Editors of Wrocławskie Studia Politologiczne to inform the author(s) in writing that the article has been rejected due to lack of originality of the analyses.

    14. Any cases of guest authorship and ghostwriting are deemed unethical and shall not be accepted. If suspicions of guest authorship or ghostwriting are confirmed, the author of the submitted publication is notified in writing of rejection of the paper because of its legal flaws. The institution(s) the author is affiliated with or cooperates with shall be notified of the fact, too.
