Abstract

The article discusses aspects of metaphorics in meta-language as a problem of translation. The essay is an introduction to a cycle of studies on metaphor in meta-linguistic discourses. The discussion will be continued in further contrastive and translation studies. This paper presents preliminary reflections on the characteristics of the metaphor of meta-language and on the status of the metaphor in linguistic research. These problems are discussed here by the example of the equivalence of the term “translation” on a conceptual level. Theoretical aspects will be discussed that may help in the translation of the metaphor.
